Class Descriptions
ASL: This Slow Flow yoga class is taught entirely in ASL! We practice breathwork, learn yoga asanas (poses/shapes), work on strength and balance, and enjoy a sweet savasana (rest) at the end. All those who communicate in ASL are welcome! All levels.
Basic Yoga: This class picks up after Yoga 101 and is also suitable for anyone who wants a more basic approach. You will work on the postures in more depth. You’ll become more comfortable with where your strengths are and how/where you may need to modify the pose. Perfect for beginners with no major injuries or anyone who prefers this more basic approach to a practice.
Chair Yoga: Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that helps reduce strain on the limbs and joints. This class is suitable for everyone, but is especially helpful for those who may have difficulty getting up and down from the floor, are recovering from a physical injury, recent surgery, or those with a permanent disability. Most of the exercises and poses will be done sitting on a chair, or standing using the chair for support. Other props may be used to bring safety and comfort to each student depending on their individual needs. Awaken areas of the body that have been inactive, soothe aching joints, and strengthen muscles, while calming the mind and uplifting the spirit in this fun practice.
Gentle Yoga – Monday: First Monday of each Month. This class offers all the benefits of yoga at a slower pace, and with props. Class starts with everyone reclining on mats, working through warming up the joints. Making our way to standing on the mat (a chair will be available for balance), we will work through various poses. The class will incorporate strength, alignment, flexibility, balance, breath, and relaxation. No experience needed – all are welcome!
Gentle Yoga – Wednesday: Gentle yoga is a hatha based practice that moves at a slower pace. Class will move through a series of gentle, joint freeing movements connecting your breath to your body, improving relaxation, flexibility, balance, and recovery. Props will be used to adapt poses. Good for beginners, or those looking for a slower paced class. Must be able to get up and down from the floor with ease.
Faith and Flexibility Yoga: With deep respect for the origins and history of yoga, this faith-based class includes meditation from a Christian worldview, asanas for strength and flexibility, as well as savasana. Throughout this class, students are invited to move intentionally with gratitude and grace for these amazing bodies we have; allowing the breath to lead their movement. Props are encouraged. All levels.
Flow Motion: This class accommodates a wide range of experience levels from beginner to students that have practiced for a long period of time. We balance strength and flexibility while building endurance and improving breathing and posture. Newer students can refine foundational yoga postures while veteran yogis can play with variations. Pace is moderate; plenty of options for increasing or decreasing the level of challenges as needed.
Prenatal: This class is for any stage of your pregnancy. The poses will be adapted from first through third trimester. Prenatal Yoga is used to help you connect better with baby, stay healthy throughout pregnancy, remain flexible and strong, helping you prepare for the challenges of labor & birth. Prenatal Yoga includes poses, deep breathing, relaxation and meditation that may be practiced through all trimesters (clearing any medical issues with the care provider). Prenatal Yoga is a great way to connect with other parents-to-be and establish friendships that go far beyond birth.
Restorative: This class includes gentle stretches, breathing, relaxation & simple movements to increase range of motion of the major joints. Restorative yoga uses props to support the body, allowing for deeper relaxation. This class is appropriate for anyone preferring to move more slowly or enjoys a quieter practice. All Levels.
Strength and Stability: (All levels including active seniors) In this Yoga class, students will build strength and increase stability. Poses will help students increase core strength and balance, using props and incorporating “daily life” movements so that the more you practice, the more you see overall improvement. The ultimate goal is to increase your health-span, and help boost immunity, as well as benefit your posture and ease of breath. Students must be able to move from the floor to standing with some ease.
Yin: This quiet practice focuses on postures that stretch the connective tissue. Poses are held for a time, and rather than a typical practice using muscular strength, this practice relies on gravity and the breath to move you into the posture. All Levels.
Yoga 1-2: This hybrid class is for everyone, especially active seniors and those who prefer a daytime class! Pay the special rate upon sign-up for the series. The class is a blend of movement and alignment, helping you build core strength, improve the breath, and work on balance. All Levels.
Yoga 101*: This workshop gets your yoga practice started! Or it’s a great review of the basic poses. Over the 5 weeks, you’ll learn the fundamental poses and be able to confidently step into a basic class once you have finished the series. *Occasional Series
